As a REALTOR that is focused on green and energy-efficient homes it seems obvious that I also have made an effort to practice what I preach in my business. One of the ways I do that is by working to make my office paper-less, at least as much as possible in this business. A few of the things I have done that have made a difference:
Bought an iPad: This may be one of the best tools to reduce paper by allowing you to easily store and view documents on the road.
- When I do a CMA for a seller I make it into a PDF and upload it on my iPad, then I email a copy to my client and take the iPad with me on the listing appointment. We can review it in person and discuss and they always have their version on their computer to review again later. Even better, I have access to all the photos of the comps and we can look at them in detail.
- I use the iPad for my listing presentations. I can take all sorts of examples of my work, diagrams and other information that I can call up at a moments notice if the conversation requires. If I had to print all these things I wouldn’t even take them, the iPad makes it possible without paper.
- I also "clip" images, examples and ideas right for the internet and save them on the iPad to refer back to. No need for a file of "ideas" to sit around on my desk.
Docu-sign: As much as possible I use Docu-sign to limit the number of printed contracts. No only does it make it easier to get signatures from clients but I can save the document on my computer and email versions to my office, the other agent and client. The contract stays cleaner and it is easier to pass around - without printed versions.
Single Property Websites and Text Message Information: Rather than putting printed flyers at a home or in a box outside, I use technology to direct people to online locations where they kind find far more information on a property that I could ever print out. Custom property websites and text message riders work to supply immediate information without paper. For flyers at the home I usually just create one page with a few highlights and the website address on them.
These three strategies above have been the most effective in helping me take the Paper-less Challenge.
